My Outdoor Christmas Decor This Year

My Outdoor Christmas Decor This Year | The Gray Boxwood

Christmas brings out my best. I don’t have a bustling yard or the vegetable garden to occupy my time, but can instead give my full attention to making the most of the holiday season. I think it’s the memories that keep the Christmas season exciting each year, those memories from my years growing up and the new ones yet to be made. As soon as I feel I can (and the neighbors won’t stare too much), I start to decorate the house indoors and out. Having friends and family over keeps me inspired to create new ways tp welcome everyone to The Farm, hopefully giving each visitor a sense of home, even if just for the evening.

This year, fresh garlands are draping my doorways. I like to find a garland that has a mixture of greens and to give it a more personal touch, I add my own as well. To start, I made sure I had hooks that could hold the weight of the garlands. Personally, I love to use Command hooks because they are so easy to remove. I strung the lights before placing the garland. This way, I knew the correct amount was hanging and could hook the lights to the garland as needed. To amp up the personalized factor, I added a mixture of magnolia leaves and boxwood sprigs. Using just a twist of wire around the branches, I was able to secure these greens to the garland in various places. As a final touch I add some shatterproof ornaments and pinecones. Instantly the garland was custom!

My empty flower urns are festooned in pretty much the same simple manner. Concolor fir and princess pine functioned to create a quasi-wreath. Then I filled in with magnolia, boxwood and pinecones.

Christmas goes so fast and thankfully these touches are a quick and simple way to brighten the holidays, using the fresh cuts of the season!
